Live Music · CLASSICAL CONCERTS IN GERMANY
Good classical concerts in Germany sell out weeks ahead and the great ones go first. Below: the 7 to book early, what each includes and how they differ.
Spend 70 minutes with the Berlin Orchestra, soprano Duangamorn Fu, organist Vladimir Magalashvili, and a violin soloist at Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The program may include Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue, Schubert’s Ave Maria, Mozart’s Lacrimosa, and Beethoven’s Fifth.
“Concert was very good. Our seats were not too good.”
Spend one hour hearing the Residenz Soloists and Munich Philharmonics perform Bach, Vivaldi, Händel, Haydn, or Mozart in Munich’s old court chapel. The palace setting is magnificent, but the chapel can be cold and the entrance is easy to miss. Concerts run Saturdays at 6:30 PM year-round.
“I loved the concert. It is very very very difficult to find. No one in the area had any idea where it was—Even the Girl at the Front door knew where the Concert was.”
Attend a 90-minute classical concert in the Bode Museum’s Gobelin Hall, with programs ranging from Baroque recorder and organ music to Mozart opera, Beethoven, Haydn, and Romantic songs. Performers include the Mozart Ensemble Berlin, Marianne Boettcher, and Beatrice Wehner-Schaller. Museum admission is included.
“really nice venue amazing place, keep up the good work”
Meet Florian or another local guide at Überseequartier for a two-hour walk through HafenCity, Speicherstadt, Sandtorhafen, and around the Elbphilharmonie. Expect city history, modern architecture, maritime details, and a small group of no more than 15 people. Entry fees are not included.
“We had an exclusive tour, the guide adapted the tour to our needs and it was great fun to listen to his explantions. We will re-book him any time. Thanks”
Spend 90 minutes hearing classical music in Köpenick Palace’s Aurora Hall. Programs range from Mozart piano works and opera duets to Bach violin sonatas and Iberian songs. Performers include Maria-Magdalena Pitu-Jokisch, Marianne Boettcher, and the Mozart Ensemble Berlin. Museum admission is included.
“La música estuvo formidable, pero las condiciones de la sala dejaban bastante que desear, ya que no tenía ninguna refrigeración y hacía un calor excesivo. Graciad”
Walk Munich’s Old Town with a private licensed guide who connects Mozart, Wagner, Strauss, church music, court performances, and opera. See Marienplatz, St. Peter’s, Frauenkirche, the National Theater, Residenz, and Cuvilliés Theater while shaping the conversation around your musical interests.
“We are music lovers and thoroughly enjoyed hearing the stories about the composers and musicians and seeing where they performed. Our guide was very well informed and quite delightful.”
Attend a one-hour piano soirée by the Residence Soloists in Nymphenburg Palace’s Johannissaal. The Thursday 4:30 pm program changes weekly and may include Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, and Beethoven. A walk around the palace exterior and park is included, but museum rooms are not.
“Ein einzelner Musiker hat fantastische „Musikkunst“ dargeboten… und Alles ohne jedwede Notenblätter! E i n m a l i g!”
